The best outdoor seating areas have three things in common, and size is not one of them.
Solve shade first
An outdoor area without shade goes unused from May to September. A 3-metre parasol or a shaded corner turns a space from decorative into usable.
Define the floor
An outdoor rug or a run of turf tiles visually separates the seating area from everything around it. This single change makes a balcony feel like a room.
Choose seating people linger in
A hanging egg chair or a deep rattan sofa invites people to stay. Upright dining chairs do not — keep those for the table.
Light it for the evening
Most outdoor time in Egypt happens after sunset. Solar path lights and a few warm lanterns extend the area's usable hours at almost no cost.
